Students of the 2nd year of master studies in the field of Spatial Planning completed an excursion to the Slovenian seaside town of Piran from April 21 to 23, 2022. Piranha is one of the most valuable of historical towns in Slovenia with preserved Venetian and Austro-Hungarian architecture, is literally a picture book about the history of the entire region of northern Istria. Students engaged in analysis of the architectural-urbanistic composition of the city, its current urban development as well as cooperation with other cities in the regional context. The main point was the reception at the city hall and the discussion with Dr. Marko Špacapan about the city’s territorial plan, the development of the Piran-Portorož region, challenges in the field of sustainable tourism development as well as the ecological problems of the northern Adriatic. The discussion was all the more interesting because Slovak developers are also participating in the current development projects in Piran, and the city is visited by Slovak tourists in the summer season.
