Graduated at the Faculty of Natural Sciences Comenius University in Bratislava (1978).
Priority research fields: landscape potential, sustainability indicators, sustainability and quality of life, environmental geography, landscape planning, development strategies/SEA, etc.. Scientific coordinator of several projects. Professor since April 2006. Educational activities at Slovak and foreign universities: mostly Comenius University in Bratislava, Palacky University in Olomouc and Slovak University of Technology in Bratislava. Senior research worker in the Institute of Geography Slovak Academy of Sciences (1978 – 2022). Author event. co-author of more than 30 monographies, approx. 200 studies and more than 2000 other articles and public presentations. More than 1200 registered quotations. Member of several editorial boards. An active participant at international scientific events as well as UN summits at five continents. Consultant and regional coordinator of the Global Security Programme University of Cambridge (1993 – 1997). One of the key authors of the National Sustainable Development Strategy SR and Vision of Slovakia till 2015. Former MP and chairman of the parlamentarian environmental committee. Member of the Governmental Board for Sustainable Development (1999 – 2002). Member of the External Advisory Board to the Slovak President (2019…).
