Assoc. Prof. MSc. Matej Jaššo, PhD., is an Associate Professor at the Department of Environmental Management and Spatial Planning at the Faculty of Management, Comenius University in Bratislava, where he is one of the key contributors to ensuring the quality of the Spatial Planning study program. He has been a member of Spectra, Centre of Excellence, since 2000 and was one of the principal co-authors of its Corporate Identity concept. He also serves as a study advisor for the third level of study and is the guarantor of several courses, primarily in the fields of the humanities and social sciences. He graduated in social psychology in 1997, earned a doctorate in urban planning in 2004, and completed his habilitation in spatial planning in 2015. He has been a university lecturer for more than 25 years (FAD STU, UM STU, FM UK) and is active in research on soft factors in spatial planning. His work focuses on topics such as regional identity, participatory planning, regional marketing and management, urban semiotics, the theory and ethics of spatial planning, and European planning cultures. He is the author of the interdisciplinary concept “City as Personality and Its Projection in Urban Semiotics” and has supervised dozens of bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral theses.
In his publication activities, he is the author or co-author of several monographs and book chapters published by renowned international publishing houses (e.g., Springer Verlag), as well as more than 100 scholarly articles. Since 2003, he has served as the scientific coordinator of Spa-ce.net, a network of scientific and research institutions active in spatial planning in Central and South-Eastern Europe. He has been a visiting lecturer at universities in Prague, Belgrade, Stockholm, Vienna, Prishtina, Newcastle upon Tyne, and Volos.
